My 39 years of legal experience coupled with my CPA background and my record of public service qualify me to serve as a judge.
I have been in practice for 39 years during which time I have gained a wealth of experience in a number of areas of the law. I have handled various litigation matters including contested cases in domestic relations, contracts, real estate, and probate to name a few.
Throughout my practice I have been responsible for all aspects of a case from drafting pleadings, motion practice, discovery and trial. I have been responsible for trials that required admission of medical testimony, business records and expert witnesses. Dispositive motions have resolved many of my cases or positioned them for a favorable settlement. Also, at times during my legal career I have been an arbitrator in the Cook County Arbitration program and for the American Arbitration Association for the construction industry.
My wealth of experience in transactional matters includes estate planning; commercial and residential real estate transactions; family settlements; federal and Illinois estate and income tax preparation; business formation; sales and purchases of businesses; and title work all of which gives me a broad background that will be of great benefit on the bench.
My experience includes representing clients from all walks of life: young persons and seniors; individuals, both blue collar and professional; businessmen and corporations. This diverse group of clients gives me a perspective for many of the parties who regularly come before the court. By representing such a wide range of parties in my career, I am not hampered by one perspective thus enhancing my ability to be fair and impartial to all litigants. I have been found "Qualified" or "Recommended" by many of the bar associations.
The Illinois State Bar Association has found me "Qualified" to serve as a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. The Women's Bar Association of Illinois found me "Recommended" for the office of Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Please note, "Recommended" is the highest rating that the WBAI now gives.
In addition to my legal experience, my training and background as a Certified Public Accountant and auditor for a Big Eight accounting firm has given me a discipline and a perspective not duplicated by other attorneys. I have used this added training and experience to benefit my clients. In litigation or transactional work, I have the ability to analyze business and tax matters. I use these skills to assist other lawyers in preparing their cases for trial.
In 2012 there were over 1.2 million licensed attorneys in the United States. It is estimated there are only 12,000 to 15,000 attorney / CPAs in the country. Only 1.25% of attorneys nationwide possess the additional training and discipline of a Certified Public Accountant. These skills will be of value in many of the courtrooms in Cook County.
I have volunteered in many civic and local organizations including the Jaycees, the Twinbrook YMCA, and the Schaumburg Athletic Association, where I held leadership positions including treasurer, head commissioner, etc. I served as a volunteer member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Youth Soccer Association (IYSA) for 18 years and its treasurer for over 15 years. The IYSA is a state wide not-for-profit organization with membership in excess of 75,000 youth players, ranging in age from 5 to 19 years old and a budget in excess of $3,000,000 annually.
I have worked tirelessly to open membership and participation for all groups - regardless of race, gender, national origin, or disabilities. I am a volunteer in the Chicago Bar Association "Wills for Heroes Program". Attorneys prepare Wills and Powers of Attorneys for first responders and their families free of charge. In the past I have volunteered for the Illinois CPA Society Military Service Tax Preparation Project.
CPAs provide free personal income tax preparation to members of the United States Armed Forces recently returned from or still on active duty in a combat zone. I'm a firm believer in pro bono work. My involvement with these organizations has increased my sensitivity for diversity. Working with these communities has heightened my ability to listen to people from different perspectives thus enhancing my ability to be fair and impartial.
I have the legal experience, knowledge and integrity for the position of Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County. My success in working with people has shown I possess the temperament necessary for this position.
Tell us something we would be surprised to learn about you.
I have lived in Schaumburg for over 43 years where my wife of 44 years and I have raised our two children. My greatest enjoyment in life is the time I spend with my family. Whether it is holidays, vacationing in Yellowstone, visiting Disney World, or just watching the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks on TV, I will never get enough time with my family. The time we have spent as a family hiking in our national parks, visiting historical sites, fishing or cheering for our favorite teams makes life worth living. It is the fabric that binds the family together.
